The Harvard Business Review (May 2006) recently published an article defining core innovation strategy objectives for IT innovators. In it, the author stated that IT innovations that “connect the islands of information in the health care system can vastly improve quality and lower costs”.

However, despite the vast expenditure in health IT in the last 5 years, it was noted that many ventures fail, including the collapse of managed care and biotech ventures. The result being that the full potential for IT innovation has not been realized. MSDRG focused on some of the factors identified in this article, which determined success or failure of past ventures.
