TECHNOLOGY

MSDRG technology goals focuses on research and development in hospital decision support platform technology that is easy to understand, easy to integrate and most importantly easy to use. The unique aspect of our technology is the combination of innovators and technology specialists combined with expert direction and consultation with physicians and clinicians.

We work on customer focused innovation: We focus on systems that add value to a patients care and experience of health care. Improving discharge documentation through automated fact sheets and smoking cessation advice in asthma management systems is one example. Systems developed by MSDRG are designed and researched by emergency physicians who appreciate the unique information environment of the ED and the need for highly intuitive systems.

We identify key players: We are committed to building partnerships with emergency department professionals and IT companies to bring about practical information solutions

We are accountable: We are committed to studying medical decision support systems in actual clinical practice and reviewing the results and implications with our peers

We use policies: We are working to build partnerships with peak bodies such as NEHTA and AHIC to implement data standardization for interoperable systems

An expert panel regarding decision support systems in emergency medicine in 2004 made the following strong recommendations:

1. Clinicians tend to avoid fragmented systems that necessitate changing applications, changing location or redefining context to seek out data for each task. Seamless integration of order entry, documentation and decision support systems are highly desirable.

2. Clinically important resources and references should be available online and available to the clinician where it is needed most.

3. The effect of decision support systems and order entry systems should be evaluated and researched as a matter of urgency

4. Systems intended for ED should be designed specifically for ED
